Coach Dyron "Black" Anderson — Coach Black to everyone who knows him — built Dog Pound Academy to give young players the truthful voice and the chance he had to fight for himself.
Who he is
The relentless standard.
Coach Dyron "Black" Anderson never played a single minute of high school basketball. He graduated from Grace King in 2009 without a varsity jersey to his name — no college looks, no recruiters, and plenty of people telling him he simply wasn't good enough.
So he built one himself. Coach Black outworked everyone in the gym, clawing his way through junior college to the NCAA and a degree from the University of Texas at Tyler, then onto professional courts in three countries — a 1st Team All-League run in the PBA, the United Cup in the Dominican Republic, and a scoring title chase in Armenia's League A where he dropped 30 a night.
But his real legacy is being built in East Texas. In 2020 he founded Dog Pound Academy to give young players the truthful voice and the shot he never got. Since then he's trained more than 500 athletes and sent 20 of them on to play college basketball — not just building better shooters, but turning young men and women into confident, disciplined competitors with a moral conscience.

The long road to the NCAA

Started from nothing and worked his way through junior college to the NCAA, earning his degree from the University of Texas at Tyler in 2018.
Dog Pound Academy is born

Started training overlooked players during the pandemic — the kids nobody else would bet on, because he had been one of them.
Turning pro
PBA · Dominican Republic
Signed with the PBA in Arlington and earned 1st Team All-League, then took the court in the United Cup for Uprise in the Dominican Republic.
Starring overseas
League A · Armenia
Became one of the top scorers in Armenia's League A — averaging 30 points a night — while still pouring back into his students every summer.
The Mission
